Burwell Parish Council Sports Recreation Working Group would like to announce that through close consultations and liaisons with both the Burwell Sports Federation and also all three associated Local Football Clubs, it has obtained a Substantial Success - Football Association funding for a Refurbished & Extended Recreation Ground Pavilion.
The Project, costing nearly a quarter of a million pounds for the creation of a four changing room ( and ref’s facilities ) pavilion will revolutionise the facilities for local sports players, including the 22 football teams that the three clubs have, totaling over 367 local players.
This Football Association Grant represents 71% project funding, which demonstrates the urgent severe need that we were able to demonstrate in this yearlong application process with the Football Association. The maximum usual grant is 50%.
Both the Local and Regional Football Associations were highly supportive of our application and Business Plans, resulting in the award being recently approved at National Level. It is hoped that building work will commence shortly after the Burwell Carnival and be completed during the early autumn.
This grant, is in addition to the recent Skateboard Park grant from WREN for a new Concrete Skate park, and means that Burwell Parish Council has achieved a quarter of a million pounds of grant funding towards these projects, with the substantial balance of the project costs being provided by the Council in the form of 'seeding funds' or 'fund matching'.
In addition, Burwell Parish Council awaits further grant notifications from two further funders for this project, as it intends to improve and extend the associated Recreation Ground car park area.
This is also in addition to the £45,000 three year ‘Football Association Approved’ pitch improvement programme the Council is funding on the Recreation Ground.
The three local Football Clubs through Burwell Sport Federation are carrying out a variety of fund raising activities to support the BSF "Buy a Brick Campaign" to raise £5000 towards the Pavilion costs, as this community activity was fundamental in our grant success - Please support them or call into the Council Office to find out how you can donate from £1 upwards.
Look out for Grand Opening announcements both for the New Pavilion & New Skate Park.
Burwell Parish Council Sports Working Group has plans to conduct a village wide Sports Survey in the early Autumn, and both short, medium and long terms plans for additional facilities will be formulated incorporating this data - look out for the survey both in CLUNCH & Online later this year.

Following the consultation last year, the Cemetery Regulations have now been reviewed. The two main changes are that although it will remain a lawn cemetery, as it is now, there will be an opportunity to place plants and mementoes of your loved one, if wished, in an area of up to 18 inches in front of the gravestone. The second change is that the Exclusive Right of Burial will now be for 50 years (instead of 99 years) with an option to extend this time at a later date. A copy of the revised regulations is available on this website (under Cemetery), at the Jubilee Reading Room and on the Noticeboard at the Cemetery.
Dial-a-Ride - The monthly trip to Ely, on the first Thursday of the month will continue through out the year, although the service will now be provided by the Voluntary Network based in Newmarket. Seats can be booked by contacting the Voluntary Network on 01638 664304. You will need to be a member of the Voluntary Network, but they will give you the details about this when you book.
