Burwell Parish Council ANNOUNCES work on New Pavilion has started.

Burwell Parish Council is pleased to announced work on the the New Pavilion for the Recreation Ground on Wiers Drove started on Monday June 27th.

Our Project Manager, Mr. Alan Lamb was on site to oversee the start of the work by our contractors, Jaggard Bros.

The upgrade and refurbishment to provide a new Pavilion with 4 modern changing rooms allowing two matches to play at the same time, referee changing rooms, kitchen facilities and upgraded car parking facilities, has been supported by a Grant that Burwell Parish Council obtained from the Football Asscociation Football foundation for of 71% of the Pavilion project costs.

Burwell Parish Council has proved substantial funds for ’ Pavilion project seed monies’ to enable the application for a Football Asscociation Grant, and also Car Park enhancement, which in total will exceed £232000. This is in addition to a recent £45000 football pitch 3 year improvement program funded by the Council.

The new Pavilion is due to be completed within a 17 week build period and further announcements on its progress and planned Opening Ceremony will continue to be announced as work progresses.

Burwell Parish Council Recreation & Sports Working Group have been responsible for successful Grant Applications for this project and for the recent successful £80000 WREN Grant application for a New Concrete Skateboard facility - work due to start in the very near future - watch this page for announcements."

The three local Football Clubs through Burwell Sport Federation are carrying out a variety of fund raising activities to support the BSF "Buy a Brick Campaign" to raise £5000 towards the Pavilion costs, as this community activity was fundamental in our grant success - Please support them or call into the Council Office to find out how you can donate from £1 upwards.

Look out for Grand Opening announcements both for the New Pavilion & New Skate Park.

Burwell Parish Council Sports Working Group has plans to conduct a village wide Sports Survey in the early Autumn, and both short, medium and long terms plans for additional facilities will be formulated incorporating this data - look out for the survey both in CLUNCH & Online later this year.

Do you walk along Rights of Way?

Following the consultation last year, the Cemetery Regulations have now been reviewed. The two main changes are that although it will remain a lawn cemetery, as it is now, there will be an opportunity to place plants and mementoes of your loved one, if wished, in an area of up to 18 inches in front of the gravestone. The second change is that the Exclusive Right of Burial will now be for 50 years (instead of 99 years) with an option to extend this time at a later date. A copy of the revised regulations is available on this website (under Cemetery), at the Jubilee Reading Room and on the Noticeboard at the Cemetery.

Dial-a-Ride - The monthly trip to Ely, on the first Thursday of the month will continue through out the year, although the service will now be provided by the Voluntary Network based in Newmarket.  Seats can be booked by contacting the Voluntary Network on 01638 664304.  You will need to be a member of the Voluntary Network, but they will give you the details about this when you book.
