Report from Geraldine Tate, secretary of Burwell Belles WI.
"The Burwell Belles WI and Manchetts of Burwell have jointly bought a new tree for the spot outside the village post office where sadly the tree we planted in the 1960s recently had to be cut down because of disease.
"It was much missed by the village, especially because it had such beautiful blossoms so we set out to replace it with another tree that will flower in the spring. We were directed to buy a crab apple by local firm Barchams, who said it would be suited to the soil here. We are very grateful to Mandy and Sean Manchett for their donation of £200 towards the tree, to which we added another £200 and we hope the new tree will bring pleasure to the village for years to come."
