Welcome to the Burwell Parish Council Website

Burwell is one of the larger and older villages in Cambridgeshire, situated on the edge of the Fens. The population today is over 8000: large enough to be interesting but small enough for people to interact. It’s a great community to live in and make friends. For more information about Burwell click Burwell Community website.

This is a website for the Parish Council and we have tried to include as much information as possible. If you feel the site is missing information which could be of benefit to the community please contact the Parish Clerk.

Burwell 20 mph Speed Restriction

Published: 15 May 24

Following further discussions with Cambridgeshire County Council Highways the Parish Council has requested certain clarifications of the original proposal and is considering possible alternatives. The Council had hoped that full plans/proposals would be available to view at the Annual Parish Meeting on May 21st, 7pm at the Gardiner Memorial Hall. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the correct plans to be prepared by Highways, and therefore will be unable to share with the community at the meeting as originally planned. As soon as the revised plans and proposals are received, it is our intention to make these available to the community by holding a number of information sessions, where residents can discuss their views and raise questions with members of the Parish Council. Details will also be available on this website. In order that we can continue to jointly establish the community's wishes, we will continue to liaise and work with our local community and Highways Department to establish a consensus of opinion for Safety in Burwell. This, in addition to any Statutory Consultation, demonstrates the Parish Council's intention to continue to engage fully with the community on this issue before moving forward. Read More...

Climate Change Action Plan

Burwell Parish Council recognises that the world is in a state of climate emergency, and acknowledges that we must act now to reduce our carbon footprint. Many have noticed the disturbing change in recent weather patterns, causing destruction globally in the form of fires and floods, crop failure and displacement. Millions of species are under threat of extinction, and the lives and welfare of our children and grandchildren is severely compromised.
